You're All in the Same Boat
The season is starting and now everybody is suddenly panicking!
Nerves are normal, but not helpful.
So here’s Some things to remember to better handle your first weekend out:
It’s their first weekend too.
Prepare for their Top 3-4 hitters, not their whole lineup (that you don’t even know what it is).
Trust in your ability to ADAPT. Elite performers aren’t just good at executing - they’re exceptional at adjusting when things go wrong. Know that will happen this weekend, so remember that YOU CAN ADJUST!
Show the Way! You’re the pro and you’re freaking out, so imagine how nervous your pitchers are! So show them the way…take the following steps and model for them how to stay calm in the storm called games.
Quick Steps to Handle Crisis: (this is from fighter pilots who train for crisis)
Know it’s coming which keeps you from being surprised.
Plan for the spots within a game where crisis is more likely to happen, then have your plan for when it does.
Know what crisis looks like. For or instance, is it a 3 run homerun off this pitcher against this team - instead of simply a home run.
Wind the Clock. This refers to the old analog clock in fighter jet cockpits that need to be wound in order to work. How is this relevant…when crisis hits, take a second to wind the clock before just reacting out of panic. It will allow your brain to settle in on the solution instead of cycling over the problem. So figure out - what will be your version of Winding The Clock?
Good luck Everyone!
