What You CAN Have Them Do Over Break - and - Tips for Committing to YOURSELF Over the Break

Happy Monday - and welcome to December and a break from fall ball and recruiting. Make sure you know the things you CAN tell your pitchers to do over break, along with some recommendations for committing to your own growth and health over the holidays.

What You CAN Have Them Do Over Break

We all can use the break from the fast-approaching holidays, but we also are stressing out hoping our players keep working out. And while the rules prohibit us from insisting they practice over the break, it really will help our pitchers if we give them some guidelines for the break.

A look at the calendar shows there are 6 weeks from today before we all report back for Spring practice. To us, it seems like a blink-of-an-eye, but to our pitchers it can seem like FOREVER. Which is one reason they struggle with managing their workouts during this time.

A quick look at the calendar shows just what these 6 weeks entail, and how it really isn’t that long:

So let’s break it down…

For the next two weeks your pitchers have the advantage of still being on campus and having access to both the weightroom and the strength and conditioning coach. Suggest they make the most of this time by not only keeping up their habit of working out but to also get a workout program from the S&C coach. Maintaining their strength AND conditioning levels are vital to preventing injuries for them when the season starts.

So let’s look at some tips for helping your pitchers use their break wisely so they can report back knowing they’re ready for the season:

Tips for Committing to YOURSELF Over the Break

We pour so much into our players that we often forget to pour into ourselves. It’s often a matter of time - so what better time than over the holiday break!

I’m somebody that has way bigger educational aspirations than I have time, so this time of year is something I really look forward to.

No matter what your appetite for learning either by reading, or watching podcasts - now is the time to commit to yourself and come out of the holidays the better for it.

So here’s my recommended list of things to do, books to read or podcasts to listen to:

#1) - Attend the NFCA Convention in Las Vegas, Dec 10-13. This is learning on steroids and it’s YOUR organization!
