The season kicks off soon - but remember, it’s just the start. There’s still a long way to go. In this issue I’m sharing an eBook I’ve written filled with Drills & Exercises as well as a look at how expanding our ways of saying things helps get our pitchers to change.

This newsletter is a result of my curiosity and love of learning. I want to quickly share these things with other curious, busy pitching coaches like you.

My passion is helping people and I hope this newsletter helps you!

I’d love to have you join our community of curious pitching coaches!

Want Them to Change, You Might Need to Change

It’s frustrating as hell trying to get pitchers to make changes or adjustments - especially when you’ve told them what to do. And done it A LOT!

But that could just be the problem. I don’t know a player that doesn’t want to get better. Sure, some might act like they don’t want to, but that act is usually to hide their fear or frustration at not getting better.

We’re the professionals and the “experts” so when we find ourselves telling a player something “over and over again” then consider that it’s you, not them.

And by You, I mean that what you’re telling them probably isn’t wrong, you’re just not saying it in a way that resonates with that player.

Becoming a expert pitching coach isn’t about nailing data, or being the best at pitch calling. Of course those things are super important - but what you’re coaching are PITCHERS. Individual people that think differently see things differently, and understand differently.

So reaching each of them requires you to talk differently. For instance, instead of saying “use your legs more” over and over. And over. Find 5-8 different ways to describe how a pitcher can use her legs, or a specific leg, or push with a specific toe more…

Most things aren’t solved through your words. Players need to be put into situations where they can “feel” what you’re talking about, or “feel” what they’re currently doing and how the change needs to feel. That’s where my eBook filled with different Drills and Exercises could come in handy.

Consider this - we really aren’t Pitching Coaches. Instead, we’re Coaches of Pitchers. We’re Word Merchants. We’re Feel Experts. We’re Connecters. We’re Relaters. We’re Encouragers.

If you can become an expert at these things, then you can be average at data and calling pitches and your pitchers can still be very successful.
