How to Prep for the First Few Weekends
These first couple of weekends are rough to scout for. You’re facing 5 teams in 3 days and nobody has played enough to have any current stats. You waste countless hours going down rabbit holes of whose transferred in and out, whose left and whose new - never mind if they have a new coach and the impact that might have on things.
While some scouting is clearly important, a better use of your first couple weekends is the make them about Your and Your Pitchers instead of Them and Their Hitters.
As we all get back into the swing of things here’s some things to keep in mind for pitching calling, for game-prepping, and for how best to use these first couple of weekends:

A Great Video When Things Get Hard
Starting next weekend things get real. We go from playing ourselves to playing teams that are showing up to destroy us. That will bring with it struggle, frustration and discouragement.
Not all of our pitchers will handle it well. They’ll probably all struggle at some point, to some degree and some will do it multiple times.
We’ll no doubt struggle some too. It’ll take us all a while to get back into the swing of prepping for games, playing games and recovering from games.
In the meantime, it’ll help to have a reminder of the role that struggle plays in the goals we all have to reach our best. Here’s a great (and short) video that I hope will remind you and your pitchers of just how vital all the upcoming struggle is to your end goal.
Thanks for reading this week’s Curveball Chronicles. I hope you gained some insight, some encouragement, some knowledge or some grace.
Go make this a Great week!
